{"id":396208,"date":"2023-07-18T06:06:38","date_gmt":"2023-07-17T20:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=396208"},"modified":"2023-07-18T06:06:38","modified_gmt":"2023-07-17T20:06:38","slug":"semis-doubles-postponed-to-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/semis-doubles-postponed-to-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Semis doubles postponed to today"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_396186\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-396186\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/POJC-pix-Lamwb.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/POJC-pix-Lamwb.jpg\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-396186\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lam<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The conclusion of the semifinals of the boys 14 division of the 2023 Pacific Oceania Junior Championships will have to wait for today as the matches of top seeds La Hunn Lam and Nason Wessel and Ryan Choi and Siwoo Lee were postponed yesterday in Lautoka, Fiji.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLa Hunn and Nason started late and were playing but it rained so it was postponed until tomorrow (today),\u201d according to CNMI Hall of Famer and national coach Jeff Race.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the postponement Lam and Wessel were down 2-3 in the first set but leading the sixth game, 40-0, against Tahiti\u2019s Nicholas Montaigut and Matehau Sacault.<\/p>\n<p>Choi and Lee, meanwhile, were to face Guam\u2019s Junhyuk Seo and Federated States of Micronesia\u2019s Dontrick Daniel, the second seeds. <\/p>\n<p>In the quarterfinals of the boys 16 doubles, Henry Seungwoo Choi and June Yu dropped the first set against Fiji\u2019s Ao Li and Devaansh Singh, but were leading, 3-1, in the second set when the match was halted due to rain.<\/p>\n<p>As for Lam\u2019s ankle injury that almost caused him to be retired in the quarterfinals of the boys 14 singles, Race said his ward is doing fine.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_396187\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-396187\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/POJC-pix-Wesselwb.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/POJC-pix-Wesselwb.jpg\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-396187\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wessel<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLa Hunn\u2019s ankle is doing okay. I have a really good ankle brace that he is wearing. He\u2019ll play the singles final in the morning. Then finish doubles later. The doubles final, if they make it, has been pushed to Wednesday morning I think,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Lam, meanwhile, is in good spirits when asked about his ankle injury prior to his postponed boys 14 doubles match.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a little pain when I run but it\u2019s not too painful. I will do my best to have a good match, and never give up. I\u2019ll make NMI\u00a0 proud, I got this!\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lam faces top seed Junhyuk Seo of Guam in the boys singles finale.<\/p>\n<p>As for the threat of being retired on Sunday with him just needing a game to wrap up the quarterfinals match, Lam said it was unbelievable.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was really shocked that the physio told me to retire. I couldn\u2019t do that.
