{"id":397440,"date":"2023-08-11T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-11T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=397440"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T14:00:00","slug":"Club-adopts-Civic-Center-Basketball-Court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/Club-adopts-Civic-Center-Basketball-Court\/","title":{"rendered":"Club \u2018adopts\u2019 Civic Center Basketball Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Saipan Eagle Lions Club has adopted the Civic Center Basketball Court in Susupe on Wednesday, making it the seventh site to be \u201cadopted\u201d since the program was initiated by Saipan Mayor Ramon \u201cRB\u201d Camacho last February.<\/p>\n<p>As part of its adoption commitment, the club promises to resurface the basketball court and maintain the site, to encourage more people to use it.<\/p>\n<p>Club president, Marie Luna Javier thanked Camacho for the opportunity to adopt the area. \u201cThank you so much and I\u2019m glad you have trusted the Saipan Eagle Lions Club to be able to serve the community in our little ways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Javier said this initiative will not only maintain the area but also promote health and wellness among people. \u201cRather than sitting for hours, it\u2019s best they get out and sweat and keep in shape. It\u2019s like family bonding as well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Camacho also underscored the need for recreation in the community to combat diseases and obesity. He said sports is not only about physical fitness, but also about building relationships among players.<\/p>\n<p>He also urged other agencies to collaborate with the Lions Club. \u201cLet\u2019s not push these volunteers away because they\u2019re contributing to our community,\u201d said Camacho. \u201cWe need to work together to try and promote and entice tourists back to our island.\u201d And one way to do that is through sports tourism, he added.<\/p>\n<p>House Vice Speaker Joel C.
