The CNMI continues to see an upward trend in fuel prices with another increase yesterday\u2014the third so far seen within a month.<\/p>\n

Early yesterday evening, Mobil Oil Marianas raised its prices by 15 cents, making it the oil company\u2019s second increase in less than a week and its third time in just one month.<\/p>\n

As of press time, Shell Marianas had yet to increase its prices but is expected to do so today.<\/p>\n

With the most recent increase, Mobil\u2019s Extra fuel went up from $5.36 per gallon to $5.51. Meanwhile, Supreme fuel went up from $5.81 per gallon to $5.96 while diesel is now $5.83 per gallon.<\/p>\n

The recent increase in fuel prices follow a string of increases in the last month.<\/p>\n

The first increase was seen back on July 19, after more than two months of steady fuel prices, with Mobil Oil Marianas breaking the streak with a 15-cent increase. Regular fuel went up from $5.11 per gallon to $5.26 per gallon.<\/p>\n

Less than a week after, on July 25, Shell Marianas surprised the CNMI community when it took the lead in implementing a 10-cent increase that brought regular fuel prices up from $5.26 per gallon to $5.36.<\/p>\n

Community members were shocked to see prices up again yesterday evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuddenly I\u2019m brought back to post-lockdown days when gas shot up exponentially. Gas has been steadily rising the past few weeks and I expect it will only continue to do so as summer ends,\u201d said a 28-year-old motorist.<\/p>\n

A gas attendant said he was also shocked by the latest increase.<\/p>\n

\u201cUsually we get news of an increase like morning or afternoon. This was unexpected for us too. I don\u2019t know if gas will continue to rise but I hope it doesn\u2019t,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
