{"id":400083,"date":"2023-10-27T04:42:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-27T04:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=400083"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T14:00:00","slug":"Sugar-cane-planted-at-Sugar-King","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/Sugar-cane-planted-at-Sugar-King\/","title":{"rendered":"Sugar cane planted at Sugar King"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the Mayor\u2019s Office of Saipan, and the Division of Agriculture added a new plant feature in Garapan last Wednesday when they planted an estimate of 40 sugar cane over three beds of soil at the Sugar King park.<\/p>\n<p>As the planting took place, the press was able to get a word with Saipan Mayor Ramon RB Camacho. He shared that the team had planted 14 plants per row, and that the plants had initially sprouted and been growing at the Mayor\u2019s Office in Susupe. As planned, the plants were relocated to it\u2019s final destination at the Sugar King Park, right in front of the statue of \u201cSugar King\u201d Haruji Matsue, the park\u2019s namesake.<\/p>\n<p>Camacho had told the press that he had looked over the park before and noticed there were no sugar cane plants on display there, despite the park being named after pre-war CNMI sugar plantation owner. He said that it just makes sense to have some growing in the park for visitors to see.<\/p>\n<p>Camacho said that he and Tomonori Ito, the Mayor of Katori, Japan, which is Saipan\u2019s sister city will be adding two mandarin trees to the park this weekend during Ito\u2019s visit to Saipan.
