The Department of Public Safety is on the hunt for 25 new Police Academy Cadets and is set to launch the 27th cycle of its Police Academy next month.<\/p>\n
DPS commissioner Clement Bermudes was happy to announce that next month, DPS will be launching the 27th Cycle of the Police Academy to train 25 future officers.<\/p>\n
As of last week, DPS has announced the position, and the Office of Personnel Management has already begun accepting applications.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have just announced positions for police cadets. We\u2019re looking at hiring 25 new cadets. The upcoming cycle will be the 27th Police Academy cycle and we\u2019re estimating a starting date in November,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Bermudes, the department decided to launch another academy as it is in need of new officers to fill critical positions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will be critical to fill positions within the department so that we can ensure we can continue our partnership with the community and reduce overtime,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In addition, Bermudes said he wants to reduce overtime within the department to ensure that officers have amply time to take care of themselves.<\/p>\n
\u201cOvertime puts a lot of stress on our officers and we want to make sure that our officers are rejuvenated when they come into work and that they\u2019re taking care of themselves. We want to make sure our officers come into work ready to efficiently serve the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The DPS commissioner stated that he and his team will soon be vetting applicants for interviews.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re trying to recruit about 25 new cadets but we\u2019re estimating over 100 will apply. We will vet them based on a fair criteria before we call them for interviews.
