\nShirley\u2019s Coffee Shop, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, and Kanoa Resort forged a three-way deadlock for the early lead in the 2014 Tan Holdings Inter-Company Basketball League after defeating their respective foes last Saturday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.<\/p>\n

Shirley\u2019s hammered Saipan Tribune\/Realty Management Service in the last game, 90-71, to improve to a 2-0 record, the same mark Kanoa and Fiesta hold after topping POI, 81-73, and CTSI\/D&Q\/SSBC, 88-63, respectively.<\/p>\n

Fiesta played CTSI in the curtain-raiser and went on a third-quarter breakaway en route to the 25-point winning margin. Ahead by only 2 at halftime, 40-38, Fiesta scored its most points in the third, drilling 28 for a commanding 68-49 advantage, entering the final canto. <\/p>\n

Adonis Macoto starred in the pivotal third quarter for Fiesta, firing 10 markers and almost matching the entire output of CTSI, which was held to 11. Paul Quizon backed up Macoto in the third-quarter assault, delivering 8 of his 9 markers in that period.<\/p>\n

Fiesta went on to keep its wide margin, as CTSI still struggled offensively in the fourth, making only five field goals.<\/p>\n

In the second game, Matt Duenas had another explosive game for Kanoa Resort to lift his team to the 8-point win. Duenas, who had 33 points in their 82-66 triumph over Saipan Tribune\/RMS, earned 30 markers against POI.<\/p>\n

The former Saipan Southern High School standout hit Kanoa\u2019s last 8 points in the third period, turning a 40-31 halftime advantage to a 15-point bubble, 64-49, going into the payoff canto. In the final frame, Ferdie Arago tried to bring POI back in the game with his successive baskets, while burly forward Cisco Cruz countered with his own string of points in the closing minutes to help Kanoa gain its second consecutive win.<\/p>\n

Cruz finished in twin digits with his 12, while Mico Usi and Fred Litulumar added 13 apiece. Arago paced POI with his 26 points.<\/p>\n

In the third game, Shirley\u2019s capitalized on a depleted Saipan Tribune\/RMS team to cruise to its second win.<\/p>\n

Shirley\u2019s set the tone of the match early, taking a 23-10 advantage in the first period. The lead ballooned to 19 at the break, 43-24, as Shirley\u2019s kept pounding the five-man crew of Saipan Tribune\/RMS, which lost Rowell Caduan to injury in the first canto.<\/p>\n

Five Shirley\u2019s players scored at least 5 points each in their first half domination, while only Mark Rabago and Ferdie De La Torre consistently hit their shots for Saipan Tribune\/RMS in the first 20 minutes of play. Shirley\u2019s continued its balanced offense in the second half, while a visibly tired Saipan Tribune\/RMS waved the white flag at the halfway mark of the fourth canto with the former ahead by 21 points.<\/p>\n
