Ada Gymnasium.

Priority Care came in hot in the first and the second periods, with Steve King, Alfred Manglona, Justice Aldan, Matthew Duenas, and Marvin Rabauliman shooting some smoky hot shots and smashing PSS, 26-19, and then again 43-35 through the second quarter.

Halftime looked hopeful for Priority Care as the team held an 8-point advantage over PSS.

The tension in the gym was thick and electric and by the third period, fans were going crazy with the loudest chants and cheers from PSS fans.

Not to be outdone, the most enthusiastic flag waves and loudest bleacher noise came from Priority Care fans.

As their fans rose up with their chants and cheers at the start of the third, the game took a drastic turn, as PSS educated skeptics on the definition of a comeback.

Derek Olopai made a 3-point shot to start second-half hostilities and from then on PSS was on fire.

Melvin Sakisat, Mii Junior Tekopua, Preston Basa, Roger Valencia, Tyler Palacios, and John Ferrari shot the lights out in the third quarter and PSS buried Priority Care under an avalanche of points to take a 62-52 lead entering the fourth and final quarter.

Five minutes into the fourth period, Priority Care’s Duenas and King pulled off quite the insane coordination with a long throw from Duenas to King near PSS’ hoop, where King proceeded to get the ball in without any hindrance. The move gave Priority a 2- point advance moving them up to 60 points.

Defense proved strong for both teams, and steals were constant on both ends, with Priority Care showing their hunger with some very impressive steals. But as PSS continued their rotation of players, the starting five from Priority Care stayed on the court throughout the game, and as they lost energy they had to face rejuvenated PSS players. After an impressive fight, PSS maintained their undefeated run this season, and moved to become this year’s R&J Wine and Liquor Inter Government/Business League.

During a halftime conversation with PSS’ Marlon Cabrera, he told the media “I don’t want to lose, I want to win.” Checking back with him after the win, he said “I feel happy, and I’m so proud of these guys. They played their hearts out. Like I said, we came here as a team, we win as a team, and we’re going to go home as a team.”

Cabrera said he told the team that they weren’t anticipating a Game 2 and they were going to finish it off on the court.

“We want this, and we’re not coming back on Wednesday. And it goes well because tomorrow (Tuesday) is Education Day, and we’re going to celebrate Education Day with a PSS win.”

He extended his appreciation to the whole team for all their hard work and the fans for all their support.

“Thanks to all of them who came and supported us.”

PSS’ Basa was named MVP after scoring 22 points in the finals. Sakisat also totaled 22 points, while Valencia added 14.

King led all scorers with 27 points in a losing cause for Priority Care.

PSS 86 – Basa 22, Sakisat 22, Valencia 14, Olopai 9, Tekopua 8, Winkfield 4, T.
