<\/p>\nAfter the COVID-19 pandemic halted their annual Thanksgiving feast, The Salvation Army announced yesterday that they would be resuming the tradition this Thanksgiving and will be serving 500 to 600 meals on Nov. 23. \u201cAfter several years of having to cancel or reorganize the event due to approaching typhoons, COVID-19, and other factors, we are bringing back this event and we invite everyone to come by and have Thanksgiving dinner with us,\u201d said pastor Wayne Gillespie of The Salvation Army. The event will be held at the Garapan Central Park across the Office of Aging in Garapan, where the meals will be served and distributed from 11am to 2pm. Gillespie said they did a mobile distribution of meals last year, but this year they are excited to come together and resume serving traditional Thanksgiving fare, as well as full on entertainment, and games for every community member gathered to enjoy. While the announcement was officially made at the Rotary Club of Saipan last Tuesday, the club\u2019s sergeant-at arms, Curtis Dancoe, shared his experience of joining the event with his family and that the spirit of giving was genuinely felt. \u201c\u2026Taking care of hunger on Thanksgiving Day\u2026is kind of a powerful thing to do once a year and to bring your family down and be a part of it is a good learning opportunity.\u201d said Dancoe \u201cIt\u2019s a pretty moving experience because you\u2019re in touch with community members. People in the community just come out, and you feel the sense of gratitude…\u201d Gillespie said those who want to volunteer are welcome, as there\u2019s always a job to do. With the Christmas holidays drawing closer, the event would also kick off the start of The Salvation Army\u2019s Red Kettle Season \u201cWe will also have a red kettle setup at this event and it will also mark the official opening of our Red Kettle Season,\u201d said pastor Annie Gillespie.
