The following sonnet begins a yearlong series of poems about former President Trump, inspired by Dante\u2019s Divine Comedy. As some readers know, Dante began the book in Hell (Inferno), followed by Purgatory (Purgatorio) until he reached his ultimate goal of Heaven (Paradiso). My sonnets will follow Potus 45 through his 2024 campaign but not in Dante\u2019s order. Some will contain all three locations in a tragicomedy using sonnet form.<\/p>\n

Tragic Scenes from Paradise Reversed<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

A Don grew old who could not triumph over himself<\/p>\n

From Queens, NY he wished to form a Trump kingdom<\/p>\n

With a push and shove from his gilded toilets above<\/p>\n

From his NY City Trump Tower for hour after hour<\/p>\n

From Wash DC he detonated precepts of democracy<\/p>\n

With vindictiveness, anger and vitriol he would shower<\/p>\n

From his golf course in Mar a Lago he would glower<\/p>\n

At his predecessor a former US Senator from Chicago<\/p>\n

From his private National Golf Club in New Jersey<\/p>\n

He administered Bedminster retribution with no mercy<\/p>\n

From what he calls \u201cthe final battle\u201d 2024 campaign trail<\/p>\n

MAGA supporters cheer his every insult without fail<\/p>\n

From different courts some with some without a jury<\/p>\n

Judges give him gag orders raising his ire and fury.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Destroyer of American Democracy\u201d<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

(Trump said this of President Joe Biden on Dec. 1, 2023)<\/em><\/p>\n

A line from the Bhagavad Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the<\/p>\n

Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him he takes on<\/p>\n

his multi-armed form and says, \u201cNow, I am become Death, the<\/p>\n

destroyer of worlds.\u201d Readers who have seen the recent film<\/p>\n

Oppenheimer may recall his epiphany on these lines relative to<\/p>\n

the use of the atomic bomb which he helped develop. I include<\/p>\n

it here for the ludicrous aspect of 45\u2019s projection calling President<\/p>\n

Biden the \u201cdestroyer of American democracy\u201d when the media:<\/p>\n

radio, TV, newspapers, blogs, books, and the US Judicial system<\/p>\n

of government since the insurrection that he cooked up have all<\/p>\n

pointed to him as contributing to the destruction of democracy.<\/p>\n

Many of Trump\u2019s 91 or 92 indictments relate to his attempts to<\/p>\n

distort and destroy constitutional democracy.<\/p>\n
