{"id":40353,"date":"2014-07-02T04:00:54","date_gmt":"2014-07-01T18:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=40353"},"modified":"2014-07-02T04:00:54","modified_gmt":"2014-07-01T18:00:54","slug":"chamorro-language-experiment-jkpl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/chamorro-language-experiment-jkpl\/","title":{"rendered":"Chamorro language experiment at JKPL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chamorro Psycholinguistics Team will be at the Joeten Kiyu Public Library to conduct a new Chamorro language experiment this July 3, from 11am to 3pm.<\/p>\n<p>According to JKPL technical services librarian Rosalyn A. Ajoste, the team is looking for volunteers to take the 15-minute experiment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVolunteers must be Chamorro speakers who are 18 years or older and who have spoken Chamorro since childhood. The thank-you gift for those who take the experiment will be an 8 GB flash drive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ajoste said the experiment will be conducted by University of California at Santa Cruz professors Sandy Chung and Matt Wagers, along with Manny Borja of the Chamorro Psycholinguistics Team.<\/p>\n<p>Ajoste said their research investigates the mental mechanisms that Chamorro speakers use when they process their language.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ajoste, the team has conducted experiments on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota since 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince 2013, their research has been funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The team gave a presentation on some of their study\u2019s results at the American Memorial Park in August 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Ajoste noted that two of the team\u2019s members, Borja and Chung, are also affiliated with the Chamorro Dictionary project that is supposedly being revised according to the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Chamorro and Carolinian Language Commission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Chamorro Psycholinguistics Team will be at the Joeten Kiyu Public Library to conduct a&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":18,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[268,412],"class_list":["post-40353","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-american-memorial-park","tag-jkpl"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/40353","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/18"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=40353"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/40353\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=40353"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=40353"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=40353"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
