The other two nominees for the guild\u2019s top award, for outstanding directorial achievement, are Alexander Payne for \u201cThe Holdovers\u201d and Yorgos Lanthimos for \u201cPoor Things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nolan\u2019s nomination, for \u201cOppenheimer,\u201d is his fifth DGA nod though he\u2019s never won before. Gerwig, nominated for \u201cBarbie,\u201d was previously nominated for 2017\u2019s \u201cLady Bird.\u201d Scorsese\u2019s nomination for \u201cKillers of the Flower Moon\u201d is his 13th DGA nod; he has previously won for 2006\u2019s \u201cThe Departed\u201d and for the series \u201cBoardwalk Empire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Directors Guild nominees often closely align with those of the Academy Awards. Over the past two decades, the winner of the DGA award has nearly always also triumphed at the Oscars. Last year, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert won both awards for \u201cEverything Everywhere All at Once.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DGA\u2019s nominees for first-time feature filmmaker went to Cord Jefferson for \u201cAmerican Fiction,\u201d Manuela Martelli for \u201cChile \u201876\u201d,\u201d Noora Niasari for \u201cShayda,\u201d A.V. Rockwell for \u201cA Thousand and One\u201d and Celine Song for \u201cPast Lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The guild earlier on Tuesday announced other categories. The DGA nominations for best documentary are: \u201c20 Days in Mariupol,\u201d \u201cBobi Wine: The People\u2019s President,\u201d \u201cBeyond Utopia,\u201d \u201cKokomo City\u201d and \u201cStill: A Michael J.
