Terlaje on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>In presenting her executive director\u2019s report during the CUC board\u2019s regular meeting, Terlaje said for the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. underground power project, CUC requested additional funding from the 404 Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to complete the design phase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we&#8217;ve been meeting with the CIP [Capital Improvement Projects] Office to get that funding,\u201d Terlaje said. She did not mention how much funding CUC needs.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding CUC Tinian Underground Power Project for critical loads, the acting executive director disclosed that there was a pre-bid meeting two weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>She said mandatory site inspection was done on that same day of the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it&#8217;s moving along now. And<\/p>\n<p>and hopefully that we\u2019ll construct soon, Terlaje said.<\/p>\n<p>CUC planned to bury sections of the power system on Saipan and Tinian to protect them from being damaged by strong typhoons.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, then-CUC executive director Gary P. Camacho said the plan to install an underground cable from Power Plant 1 in Lower Base to the Commonwealth Health Center has an estimated cost of $23 million.<\/p>\n<p>Camacho said the plan to put an underground cable from CUC\u2019s substation in Chalan Kiya to the Francisco C. Ada\/Saipan International Airport has an estimated cost of $32 million.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Emergency Management Agency is funding the study on the costs and feasibility of the projects.<\/p>\n<p>On Tinian, he said, the plan to have an underground power cable from the power plant to the Tinian Health Center has an estimated cost of $2 million.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/imgupload\/3cdfd51f3c4c67e03b3bc6d6ed757c61.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><\/p>\n<p>Commonwealth Utilities Corp.
