{"id":404554,"date":"2024-01-25T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-25T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=404554"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T14:00:00","slug":"3-rescued-following-fishing-trip-gone-wrong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/3-rescued-following-fishing-trip-gone-wrong\/","title":{"rendered":"3 rescued following fishing trip gone wrong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First responders managed to save three individuals who were reported missing at sea after what they expected to be a fun fishing trip went awry yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Department of Public Safety\u2019s Boating Safety Unit, Division of Customs and Biosecurity, the U.S. military, and other community members were called to action yesterday in response to a report about three spearfishermen\u2014Peter Pangelinan, Dillan Cruz, and Clifton Norita\u2014who had gone missing at sea.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, all three were located alive and safe past 4pm.<\/p>\n<p>According to a DPS statement, the three, along with one other individual who was operating their boat, launched from Smiling Cove Marina before 9am, and headed for the pre-positioned ships just outside Saipan\u2019s reef. Their boat was reportedly anchored behind one of the pre-positioned ships at around 12pm.<\/p>\n<p>It was a little after lunch when the three were reported missing at sea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe got a call about three men unaccounted for out in the water. The three were out spearfishing by one of the pre-positioned ships,\u201d said DPS.<\/p>\n<p>According to DFEMS spokesperson Rob Mojica, two DPS Boating Safety boats, one Customs and Biosecurity boat, two DFEMS jet skis, one Navy helicopter, and a number of other private boats were launched from the Smiling Cove Marina in response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt 1:02pm, Boating Safety Unit stated that they were going to do a check around the pre-positioned ships for three possible missing fishermen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mojica said Boating Safety then located the three at around 4:31pm. The police declined to reveal details about the rescue, besides saying they\u2019ve been found.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt around 4:31pm, BSU stated over the radio that they have found the fishermen and were returning to the Smiling Cove Marina and requested for medical attention.
