Inos High School Bucks made their short trip up north worthwhile as they bagged two wins in the 2023-2024 IT&E Interscholastic Boys High School Basketball League at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

They capped their visit with a close win against Agape Christian School Torchbearers, 40-38, last Saturday, and won their first game against Grace Christian Academy Eagles, 44-29, last Friday.

The Bucks trotted through the court with a fast pace against a formidable ACS team, narrowly escaping them by a margin of just 2 points.

The two-man army of the Torchbearers’ Caleb Cui and Daniel Song marched them through the court with vigor—nailing almost each attempt they made. They led the team to an overwhelming 25-16 standoff at the end of the first half.

However, the Bucks’ gameplay included an evenly distributed strategy—with their main shooter Taytum Jacob leading the team. The second half saw a lot of back-and-forth action, as momentum swung from the Torchbearers to the Bucks.

Jacob made all the difference come crunch time as he shot a three-pointer, then followed it up with a field goal and free throw. Cui matched his energy and tried to carry the Torchbearers with fast-break plays during their possession—one after the other, but Jacob had the last play and scored the two points that clinched their second win.

Jacob collected 12 points, while Victor Barcinas made 8 points, and Danny King scored 6. Cui garnered 18 points for his efforts, as Song made 13.

In last Friday’s game, the Bucks had a smoother time against the Eagles as they won by 15 points.

By the end of the first half, the Bucks had annihilated the Eagles’ defense by putting up 25 points to the Eagles 9. Jacob was once again the star of the show as he aggressively attacked paint which in turn converted charity points.

The Eagles had no gas left in them to catch up in the last half and the Bucks easily ran away with their first victory in the tourney. Jacob sank in 13 points, while Peter John Manglona was close behind with 11.

Dr. Rita H Inos 40 – Jacob 12, Barcinas 8, King 6, Manglona 5, Charfarous 4, Hocog 3, Fernandez 2.

ACS 38 – Cui 18, Song 13, Wang 5, Zhang 2.

Scoring by halves: 16-25, 40-38.

Dr. Rita H Inos 44 – Jacob 13, Manglona 11, Barcinas 4, Manglona 4, Mesgnon 4, Charfarous 4, Kapileo 2, King 2.

GCA 29 – Yang 8, Yumul 7, J.
