This is the first time for us to see how we stack up against the entire Asia/Pacific region. I hope we will be able to show why we deserve to compete at some of the largest stages in junior tennis. We have a great chance to do well in the tournament,” said Ramsey.

It also helps that the CNMI’s campaign in its very first Junior Davis Cup rests in the capable hands of Lam, Wessel, and Yu—all former Pacific Oceania Junior Championship winners.

In Colombo, Lam will assume the CNMI’s No. 1 position, Wessel the No. 2 spot, and Yu will be third in the pecking order.

“June and Nason have never played on clay court before so it will be a challenge for them to adapt. LaHunn is a clay court veteran and is giving some tips, however. Unseeded in the tournament, our boys will have to get through the third seeded Lebanon team and an unseeded Turkmenistan team in order to advance to the quarterfinals. Whatever the result, I’m sure we will leave our mark here in Sri Lanka,” said Ramsey.

All three junior netters are hyped to represent the CNMI in another off-island tournament.

“I am grateful and honored to represent the CNMI in its first Junior Davis Cup. It will be a great experience for me with my teammates and coach Colin Ramsey. Me and my teammates will do our best to win more matches to make the CNMI proud.
