ATLANTIC OCEAN\u2014<\/strong>Saipan native seaman Nadia Mendiola was recognized as Warfighter of The Day aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington<\/em> (CVN 73), Jan 19, 2024.<\/p>\n

Warfighter of the Day is a command program where the ship\u2019s captain personally recognizes an exemplary sailor for their accomplishments. Mendiola was selected by her leadership for this honor. Her motivation is always inspiring to her peers and represents the \u201cSpirit of Freedom,\u201d the ship\u2019s nickname.<\/p>\n

Mendiola said her favorite part about her job is being able to engage with sailors and take care of their needs.<\/p>\n

She has served in the Navy for 14 months, Mendiola is a 2012 graduate of Saipan Southern High School.<\/p>\n

\u201cServing in the Navy means everything to me,\u201d said Mendiola. \u201cI have never seen my family so proud of me. I see a positive change and potential that I had never imagined for myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today Mendiola serves as a personnel specialist.<\/p>\n

Aircraft carriers, such as USS George Washington<\/em>, project power and presence worldwide by serving as the cornerstone of a Carrier Strike Group and launching and landing various types of aircraft.<\/p>\n

George Washington<\/em> is underway in support of carrier qualifications.<\/p>\n

USS George Washington<\/em> is named after the first President of the United States.<\/p>\n

The ship\u2019s motto is \u201cFirst in War, First in Peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
