{"id":407323,"date":"2024-03-11T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-11T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=407323"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T14:00:00","slug":"Oleai-Elementary-4th-graders-learn-about-tourism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/Oleai-Elementary-4th-graders-learn-about-tourism\/","title":{"rendered":"Oleai Elementary 4th graders learn about tourism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Marianas Tourism Education Council and Marianas Visitors Authority shared their tourism education message with fourth graders at Oleai Elementary School last March 6.<\/p>\n<p>The outreach team is engaging 4th graders, 7th graders, and 10th graders this year on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota with information and activities highlighting the Marianas\u2019 primary economic driver, how it impacts their lives, and ways students can support tourism even at a young age. The presentation also includes an overview of programs and activities of the MVA, including its annual signature events like this month\u2019s Tinian Hot Pepper Festival and Saipan Marathon 2024 last Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth grade teacher Esther Manzano commented that her students \u201clearned a lot of new things\u201d and were also \u201csurprised about Pagan\u2019s black sand and the other beautiful attractions in the CNMI. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>Roselle Carreon, also a 4th grade teacher for more than 20 years, said her \u201cstudents learned about the connection between tourism and the islands\u2019 economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In line with this year\u2019s school outreach theme, \u201cGreen Spaces, Memorable Places\/<em>K\u00e5mpun Betdi, K\u00e5mpun Rikuetdu\/Llingil Leyil Wal\u00fawal<\/em>,\u201d MTEC highlighted the importance of the Marianas\u2019 natural beauty in attracting visitors.<\/p>\n<p>The presentation was made by MTEC chair Vicky Benavente and she was joined by MTEC board member Catherine Perry at the presentation.
