{"id":407671,"date":"2024-04-25T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-25T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=407671"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T14:00:00","slug":"Tania-resets-NMI-10-000m-record-PB","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/Tania-resets-NMI-10-000m-record-PB\/","title":{"rendered":"Tania resets NMI 10,000m record, PB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dynamic track-star Tania Tan continues to etch her name in the record books as she reset the NMI 10,000m record\u2014which is also her personal best during the Bryan Clay Invitational held last April 12-13 in Azusa, California.<\/p>\n<p>She posted a 36:48.49 and shaved off a few seconds from the previous record and her personal best time of 37:10.89. Tan set that PB last May during the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track &amp; Field Championships at the University of Massachusetts during her senior year at Fordham University in New York.<\/p>\n<p>Tan and fellow UH Rainbow Wahine runners posted more Big West leading and program Top 10 marks. The 23-year-old ranked No. 6 with her time.<\/p>\n<p>Now a graduate student at the University of Hawai\u2019i at M\u0101noa, she is still in great running form heading toward the end of the season. She has two more meets before she wraps up her debut in the Aloha State.<\/p>\n<p>Heading into the meet, Tan said that her goal was to break her personal record\u2014and got more than she bargained for as she also set the NMI 10,000m record. With that, she said, \u201cI\u2019m glad I got to achieve both! I\u2019m super happy that I broke my 10,000m PR and am honored to have broken another NMI record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for how the season\u2019s been so far, she said it\u2019s been good and busy. She has been racing and traveling every other weekend on top of school work. She said she\u2019s \u201calso been a bit stressed with school recently as finals are approaching. And I also have a part-time job so it\u2019s been a bit stressful balancing training, racing, schoolwork, missing classes for races, and my job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tan is racing this weekend at Oregon State University and the Big West Outdoor Track Championships in about two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>With two gold and a national 5,000m record to boot in the 2023 Pacific Games, she will be competing at the Oceania Athletics Championships in Suva, Fiji from June 4-8, and the Micronesian Games from June 15-24.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m super excited to represent the NMI.
