The Saipan Fishermen\u2019s Association\u2019s 20th Mahi Fishing Derby that was set for March 2 and was initially rescheduled to this Saturday, April 6, has been reset anew to April 13 at the Smiling Cove Marina.<\/p>\n

Due to a Small Craft Advisory for their original date of March 2, SFA deemed it safer to reschedule it to a later date of April 6. However, that date has been postponed anew due to \u201cdeteriorating weather conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSafety and enjoyment are the SFA’s primary focus with all derby and tournament events and this unforeseen weather circumstance is no exception. We are constantly monitoring local and national weather applications and bulletins for optimal fishing conditions. Thank you for your kind understanding and we’ll be ready for April 13th! Fish on!\u201d said SFA in a statement.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s derby was also pushed back due to inclement weather.<\/p>\n

The prize for first place is $2,500, second receives $1,500, and third place gets $1,000. Fourth and fifth place gets in-kind prizes.<\/p>\n

SFA is anticipating about 64 boats in this derby. Last year\u2019s derby had 52 boats, with first place won by the boat 10-7<\/em> captained by Keith Torres with their 26.2-lb catch; second was the boat Ka Fish On<\/em> with a 22.2-lb mahi captained by Manuel Mogar; and third was the boat Victoria<\/em> with a 22-lb haul captained by Diego Benavente.<\/p>\n

The $2,200 side bet was won by the Le\u2019Ana Vae<\/em> with their monster 70.5-lb wahoo.<\/p>\n
