Camacho submits candidacy for Saipan mayor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ramon B. Camacho formally signified his intent to run for mayor of Saipan with the submission of his candidacy papers to the Commonwealth Elections Commission in Susupe yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Joining him in his submission were supporters, family members, and committee-to-elect members.<\/p>\n<p>Camacho said he is very glad that his supporters came out and supported him when he filed his candidacy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40861\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40861\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/rbcamacho.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-40861\" alt=\"Ramon B. (Jayson Camacho)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to Camacho\u2019s campaign manager, John Borja, they have been working hard since last year. \u201cWe believe that the municipality of Saipan belongs to the community and what we\u2019re going to do is to bring the municipality back to the community,\u201d Borja told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>Borja pointed out that Camacho has been working hard on the revitalization of villages, the Neighborhood Watch program, and beautification of villages since becoming chairman of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council.<\/p>\n<p>Borja said they would like to bring back the youth sports for the villages as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore, there was a village competition in sports, especially among the young generation and we want to bring that back to the youth of every village,\u201d Borja said.<\/p>\n<p>One of Camacho\u2019s supporters, Lucy Cabrera, said that an issue she would like to raise is the cleanliness of the island.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnother issue is that many of the smaller stores have trash outside and it is not inviting [to look at]. Camacho would listen to these concerns and I know he\u2019s very active,\u201d Cabrera said.<\/p>\n<p>Another supporter, John Aldan, said that Camacho has experience with the municipality and this will help him when he becomes the mayor of Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe used to be a councilman and I know he can do a better job as a mayor,\u201d Aldan said.<\/p>\n<p>Camacho said his slogan is \u201cForward together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to work together with the community to fulfill the issues and needs, and a lot of things can be accomplished when you work with the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am not running as mayor \u2018for\u2019 the people. I am running as mayor \u2018with\u2019 the people and that\u2019s my difference as a mayoral candidate,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Camacho is running as an independent candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Other Saipan mayoral candidates are independent candidate David Apatang and Republican candidate Joe Reyes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ramon B.
