Arnold I. Palacios left the CNMI last Monday to attend an international conference in Tokyo, Japan hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.<\/p>\n<p>Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang has been designated acting governor as Palacios will be out of the Commonwealth from Monday to Friday.<\/p>\n<p>At the conference, leaders of major cities from around the globe will be discussing initiatives and future prospects for solving challenges that are faced by large and small cities.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Office of the Governor yesterday, the conference will be held at the City Leaders Program during the Sustainable High City Tech Tokyo 2024 Summit.<\/p>\n<p>Palacios will engage in face-to-face meetings with Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike this Thursday about sustainability issues, to encourage more investments from Japan, and to identify other opportunities for partnership between Tokyo and the CNMI.<\/p>\n<p>Koike invited Palacios to attend the conference. This is the first time that CNMI is invited to this international conference in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>At the conference, Palacios will also be presenting alongside other leaders and will be part of a panel on environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office funded the governor\u2019s travel.<\/p>\n<p>While in Japan, Palacios is also hosting the Marianas Visitors Authority-led Marianas Seminar which brings together representatives from tour agencies, airlines, and other tourism industry organizations to promote the CNMI as a destination.<\/p>\n<p>MVA managing director Christopher Concepcion and MVA board member Sachiko Gerrard accompanied the governor in the events.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/imgupload\/cc8ae2ce5107dc3ad87b57f070216f50.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Arnold I.
