Ada Gymnasium.

Team Marianas is continuing to hone their skills and assert their dominance against local teams with the Micronesian Games just around the corner.

From the tip off, Team Marianas established their dominance and showcased their starters but also the depth in their bench as they quickly racked up points for a lopsided 23-9 first quarter that set the tone for the rest of the game.

La Mesa was floored as they couldn’t get past Team Marianas’ defense and as they also flushed buckets from either angle of the court. In the blink of an eye, the first half ended on a 16-point, 45-29 Team Marianas margin.

Coby Santos was the mainstay and extended his contribution to Team Marianas’ onslaught in the second half. He, along with Aferson Atan and Marvin Rabauliman kept the shots pouring, while all La Mesa could do was play an unfair game of catchup.

Team Marianas’ peaked in the last quarter and continued to show no mercy as they held La Mesa down to just six points, while they, on the other hand, made 21 points.

La Mesa’s one-man army of Ervin Villarin visited the charity line multiple times, but it was not enough to stump Team Marianas’ momentum.

At the end of the game, Santos collected the most points for Team Marianas with 15, while Rabauliman was at 14 markers, and Jack Lizama contributed 12.

Villarin had a game-high 17 points, J.R. Galang was at 10, and Leo Apelo registered 8 points.

In other results last Tuesday, 670 Akkari-EET 1 pushed past Pegs, 80-75. Last Wednesday, Bridge Capital pummeled Brothers, 91-77. The Lakay vs. Ol’Aces game was rescheduled due to a power outage. Last Monday, the Saints beat Lakay, 112-60, while Shirley’s forfeited against New Chang Ming.

Team Marianas 102 – Santos 15, Rabauliman 14, Lizama 12, Aferson Atan 11, Airson Atan 9, Ong 8, Dela Cruz 8, Schmidt 8, Basa 8, Sablan 7, Aldan 2.

La Mesa Kusina 56 – Villarin 17, Galang 10, Apelo 8, Tekopua 7, Sablan 6, Gutierrez 4, Aldan 4.

Scoring by quarters: 23-9, 45-29, 69-50, 102-56.

Team Marianas’ Djay Ong goes for a left-handed layup during one of their games in the 2024 Michelob Ultra Cup at the Gilbert C.
