This annual Expo will run from July 22-26, 2024, and is designed celebrate the rich culture and heritage of all states that comprise the Federated States of Micronesia. The Yap Visitors Bureau is spearheading coordination activities and participation in the Expo and a strong delegation of 40 people will be traveling to Chuuk soon to represent Yap.<\/p>\n<p>Yapese cultural performances and demonstrations will take place throughout the Expo, with the afternoon of July 24 at the Cultural Village venue being designated Yap Day. During this period attendees will be treated to traditional dances or churus by the dance group from Rumung. Members from the Yapese women\u2019s groups NIWA and YWA, and The Tropical Touch Souvenir Shop will showcase and sell Yapese handicrafts, as well as locally produced food and drink items. They will also provide live demonstrations on weaving and craft making, and traditional Yapese tattoo designs and tattooing will be highlighted.<\/p>\n<p>For further information on Micronesia Expo 2024 in Chuuk and Yap\u2019s participation, follow the Yap Visitors Bureau\u2019s Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>Yap is an island in the Federated States of Micronesia, in the Pacific Ocean that is ringed by spectacular coral reefs and famous for its scuba diving with giant manta rays, sharks and mandarin fish. Other key activities on the island include kayaking, hiking, deep-sea fishing and exploring the many World War II historical sites. Yap is also uniquely famous for its stone money (huge disks of stone, which are still used today in major transactions), strong traditional culture and way of life, and welcoming residents.
