THE FLAG GOES BY<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

\u2018Hats off! Along the street there comes<\/p>\n

A blare of bugles, a ruffle of drums<\/p>\n

A flash of color beneath the sky: Hats off!<\/p>\n

The flag is passing by!\u2019 (repeat at the end)<\/p>\n

Blue and crimson and white it shines,<\/p>\n

Over the steel-tipped ordered lines.<\/p>\n

Hats off! The colors before us fly;<\/p>\n

But more than the flag is passing by..<\/p>\n

Sea-fights and land-fights, grim and great,<\/p>\n

Fought to make and to save the State:<\/p>\n

Weary marches and sinking ships;<\/p>\n

Cheers of victory on dying lips;<\/p>\n

Days of plenty and years of peace;<\/p>\n

March of strong land\u2019s swift increase;<\/p>\n

Equal justice, right and law,<\/p>\n

Stately honor and reverend awe;<\/p>\n

Sign of a nation, great and strong<\/p>\n

To ward her people from foreign wrong;<\/p>\n

Pride and glory and honor, – all<\/p>\n

Live in the colors to stand or fall.<\/p>\n

\u2018Hats off! Along the street there comes\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n

H.H. Bennett wrote this poem in 1897.<\/em><\/p>\n

Notice how much of its imagery came true<\/em><\/p>\n

right here on Saipan and Tinian islands<\/em><\/p>\n

50 years later during WWII and during our<\/em><\/p>\n

Liberation Day Parade today on Beach Road.<\/em><\/p>\n

Candy red apples on a stick give em a lick<\/p>\n

half moon cookies chocolate and white<\/p>\n

watch the moon tonight and take a bite<\/p>\n

my sister\u2019s rhubarb raspberries and blue<\/p>\n

plenty of penny pies for you<\/p>\n

blueberry raspberry apple cherry<\/p>\n

fresh pumpernickel rye bread<\/p>\n

many hungry mouths are fed<\/p>\n

vanilla ice cream on a stick<\/p>\n

pink and white cotton candy fluff<\/p>\n

eat and lick before they melt. quick!<\/p>\n

popsicles and ice keke red and blue<\/p>\n

vanilla shakes and banana smoothie<\/p>\n

summer delights for me and you.<\/p>\n
