I know the public remains concerned and anxious and are awaiting answers. However, we continue to wait for these forensics. Some of these investigations, especially involving forensic examinations, it takes time, around six months to a year or even more, it all depends on the course of the examinations and how it’s being done,” he said.

However, the DPS chief assures the community that should further information arise, DPS will be keeping the community posted.

“Again, we are still waiting, and I assure you that once we get the results, we will issue a press release,” he said.

Wang and Liu were found brutally attacked last Jan. 4 in their residence in Finasisu. Wang was found dead at the scene; Liu died a few days later at the local hospital.

Since then, police investigators have looked into a couple of leads. DPS said they have since interviewed a few people of interest in relation to the murders and even searched for evidence at the Marpi landfill.

The most recent update, according to Saipan Tribune archives, is that the DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau identified several persons of interest in this case.

According to CIB commander Jeff Olopai, there are several persons DPS has investigated regarding the couple’s slaying.

“We believe there was more than one individual in the residence [during the] incident. We are hoping to get more feedback from the community and more tips. That’s all we have right now,” he said.

Based on DPS’ investigation, it was discovered that the couple had called for police assistance two weeks prior to the murder to report a break-in. DPS previously said there is a possibility that the previous break in may be tied to the murders.

Meanwhile, Olopai said a murder weapon has been identified but could not disclose further details to maintain the integrity of the investigation.

“We can disclose that there was a weapon used in this case. We cannot disclose how it was determined. Domestic violence has been ruled out. DPS is in the process of sending off evidence found at the crime scene, like fingerprints, while a medical examiner has since conducted an autopsy on the victims,” he said.

Dr. Phillip Dauterman conducted the autopsies.

Anthony Macaranas

Wang Jindong, 57, and Liu Shuping, 52, were found brutally attacked last Jan. 4 in their residence in Finasisu.

-KIMBERLY B.
