Former governor Benigno R. Fitial expressed support yesterday to the government\u2019s efforts to put up a casino on Saipan.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am for casino. I\u2019m for economic development,\u201d said Fitial when asked by Saipan Tribune for comment on the casino issue.<\/p>\n
The former governor said that people, especially the retirees, need their money. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe need resources and casino is a very, very huge resource,\u201d said Fitial in the interview outside the courtroom of Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman where he attended a case management conference in his case.<\/p>\n
The House of Representatives passed Tuesday a bill repealing and reenacting the Saipan casino law to clarify its ambiguities, among other things.<\/p>\n
Asked if he favors one or two casinos on Saipan, Fitial said that whatever the casino law says, just \u201cfollow the law.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fitial returned to the islands from the Philippines on Saturday. He will return to the Philippines on Sunday to continue his medical rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI still have my rehab,\u201d he said, adding that his health is getting better because he\u2019s having rehabilitation every week.<\/p>\n
