{"id":411870,"date":"2024-08-27T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-27T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=411870"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T14:00:00","slug":"Garapan-Street-Market-returns-on-Aug-29","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/Garapan-Street-Market-returns-on-Aug-29\/","title":{"rendered":"Garapan Street Market returns on Aug. 29"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Council for Arts &amp; Culture is bringing back one of the most popular nighttime activities in the Marianas, the Garapan Street Market in downtown Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>The weekly market\u2014suspended since the pandemic\u2014will hold a soft opening on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, from 5:30pm to 10pm at a new location, Coral Tree Avenue in front of Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very pleased to bring back the Garapan Street Market for our residents and visitors this month, as we know it is a fun evening activity that people have been eagerly awaiting,\u201d said CCAC executive director Gloriana Teuira. \u201cWe\u2019re starting small this first night and will continue to grow as attendance also grows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The market features a variety of international cuisine, free live music and dances, arts and crafts, and more. To enliven the main tourist district of Garapan, the market has been returned to its original location on Coral Tree Avenue between Paseo De Marianas and Palm Street, where the road will be closed from 2pm to 12 midnight on market nights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been working very closely with the Dept. of Public Lands, Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and Department of Public Safety on the launch, which will bring back a sense of life and excitement to the heart of our tourist district,\u201d said Teuira. \u201cAnd a special thanks to Marianas Visitors Authority for providing seed money and other support so that the council could get this event restarted. Tourism is everybody\u2019s business!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The MVA welcomed the relaunch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very excited and grateful to the Arts Council for re-launching Garapan Street Market, especially now at the high peak of summer travel season,\u201d said MVA managing director Christopher A.
