Faith Antonia Toves has been honored as the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board scholar for the academic year 2024-2025. She received a $15,000 award toward her college education for her academic excellence and dedication to the field of accounting.<\/p>\n

Toves, a senior majoring in Accounting at the University of Guam, is on track to graduate in 2025. Reflecting on her academic journey, she shared, \u201cI took an accounting class in high school and genuinely enjoyed it. I felt my skill set was fit for accounting, so I decided to pursue it as a career. After I graduated from George Washington High School, I got my associate\u2019s degree in accounting at GCC, then transferred to UOG to further my education.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her journey has not been without challenges. \u201cThe most challenging aspect would be handling personal issues while going to school. I think it\u2019s easy to get work done when everything is going well, but it takes a lot of determination to keep giving your best when times are tough. Although I have faced some challenges in my personal life, I work hard to ensure it doesn\u2019t affect my academic responsibilities,\u201d Toves explained.<\/p>\n

Toves says that the scholarship will make a significant impact. \u201cI\u2019ve always been concerned with how to pay for school, so receiving such a generous scholarship is a great blessing and opportunity. It will allow me to complete my bachelor\u2019s degree in accounting, and will enable me to graduate with enough credits to pursue a CPA,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PCAOB scholarship is a well-deserved recognition of Faith\u2019s academic and personal achievements\u2014one which the entire SBPA community celebrates and honors,\u201d said Dr. Roseann M. Jones, dean of the UOG School of Business and Public Administration. \u201cWe are grateful to have the dedication of her faculty and the generosity of the PCAOB. With this support, we achieve our collective goal of preparing the finest accounting professionals.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Doreen Crisostomo-Mu\u00f1a, professor of accounting, expressed pride in Toves\u2019 accomplishments. \u201cFaith was recognized for her academic achievements and community service contributions. As a member of the Junior Accountants Society, she advocates for the accounting profession within our university and the broader community. We take great pride in her accomplishments and believe she will continue to flourish and contribute substantially to the accounting field and our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since 2011, the PCAOB has administered a scholarship program for undergraduate and graduate accounting students enrolled in accredited U.S. colleges and universities. The PCAOB Scholars Program is mandated by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and is funded through monetary penalties collected as part of PCAOB enforcement actions. The PCAOB Scholars Program seeks to benefit students who are likely to become auditors and to make a difference to students who might otherwise choose a different career path.
