I dedicate this to anyone struggling with health, hoping it inspires them to step up and step out for a run. If, as the saying goes, ‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,’ then a journey of a 1,000 days begins with that first day. Shrink the challenge down to small, manageable steps,” he added.

As for the difficulties of continuing the streak, Deleon Guerrero said going into Year 4, it has somehow become easier, as “it became second nature to me.”

But it doesn’t mean it didn’t have its challenges, like the day he had a medical situation.

“The day I had to go in for a colonoscopy and was starving because I couldn’t eat the entire day before. I still squeezed in my mile before the procedure.”

As for the crowning jewel—the Medal of Bravery in keeping with the Star Wars theme—of his running streak so far, he said it would most definitely be his comma day.

“Most memorable was the 1,000th run, especially since I had good colleagues show up with me.”

Dela Cruz, who is president of Run Saipan, applauded Deleon Guerrero for sticking to his run streak.

“Outstanding performance from Dr. Galvin. He is very busy with his work at the college and still manages to show the public that you can always have time for your health and wellness if you make it a priority.”

Aside from Deleon Guerrero, others who have so far reached the Run Streak comma on Saipan are Alison Nelson, Snyder, and Dela Cruz himself, who is 200 days short of 3,000 days of running at least 1 mile a day.

Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero gestures the shaka after completing his comma last Friday in Marpi.

-CONTRIBUTED PHOTO

Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero, left, poses with friends who accompanied him during his comma run.
