{"id":413306,"date":"2024-09-25T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-25T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=413306"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T14:00:00","slug":"Saipan-Humane-Society-to-host-2-week-spay-neuter-clinic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/Saipan-Humane-Society-to-host-2-week-spay-neuter-clinic\/","title":{"rendered":"Saipan Humane Society to host 2-week spay\/neuter clinic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Saipan Humane Society is excited to share it will host a two-week spay\/neuter clinic this October, thanks to its continued collaboration with the Banfield Foundation and the Mars Ambassador Program.<\/p>\n<p>The clinic, which will run from Oct. 14 to 17 and from Oct. 22 to 25, 2024 at SHS in Garapan, aims to provide essential services to the community\u2019s pets, supporting both animal welfare and public health on the island.<\/p>\n<p>In a press release yesterday, SHS\u2019 Lauren Cabrera announced that experienced veterinarian Dr. Jessica Nelson will be returning to lead this year\u2019s clinic. Nelson performed 235 spay\/neuter surgeries and 183 consultations during her visit to the CNMI last year, and this year will be accompanied by her credentialed veterinary technician to perform surgeries and offer her expertise once again to the people and pets of Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Cabrera shared SHS\u2019 excitement for the upcoming event, adding a huge thanks to the Banfield Foundation and the Mars Ambassador Program as well as their partners from the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office Dog Control Program and volunteers for making the whole thing possible. She encourages residents to take come on to the clinic and take advantage of this opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>Cabrera shared that spaying and neutering not only prevents unwanted litters, but also has significant health benefits for pets, including reducing the risk of certain cancers and infections.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to that, she shared that spaying and neutering can help combat the pet overpopulation, especially in the CNMI, where a serious amount of overpopulation has occurred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cControlling the pet population is critical in helping reduce animal overpopulation and homelessness on Saipan, ensuring every animal has a chance at a healthy, happy life,\u201d Cabrera said \u201cIt also helps protect our public and environmental health, making our islands safer and more beautiful for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scheduling for the two-week spay\/neuter clinic clinic is now open at SHS\u2019 website, www.saipanhumanesociety.org. For those who may experience difficulties with scheduling, assistance is available via email at clinic@saipanhumanesociety.org.<\/p>\n<p>SHS and its partners hope to improve the lives of animals and the CNMI community as a whole.
