{"id":413459,"date":"2024-09-13T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-13T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=413459"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T14:00:00","slug":"Rape-charges-against-Dewey-dismissed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/Rape-charges-against-Dewey-dismissed\/","title":{"rendered":"Rape charges against Dewey dismissed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The rape charges filed against Charles Lee Dewey III, also known as Carter Widmor while he was hiding out in Saipan, were dismissed pursuant to a plea agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Dewey, a man who faced multiple charges including rape and sexual misconduct of a minor, pleaded guilty over the weekend to multiple felony counts before an Allen County judge pursuant to a plea agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the plea agreement, Dewey agreed to plead guilty to multiple felony counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, child solicitation, possession of child pornography, dissemination of matter harmful to minors, and residential entry.<\/p>\n<p>In exchange for his guilty plea, the Allen County Prosecutor\u2019s Office has agreed to drop two counts of rape filed against Dewey.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from pleading guilty, Dewey has also agreed to pay back the cost of extradition which totaled $31,660.<\/p>\n<p>After the change of plea hearing last week, the Allen Superior Court went on to sentence Dewey for the crimes he pleaded guilty to.<\/p>\n<p>For the sex crimes he committed against minors, the court sentenced Dewey to an imprisonment term of 14 years.<\/p>\n<p>The court made most of Dewey\u2019s sentences concurrent, which means they will be served at the same time, but combined 12 years and a consecutive two-year sentence to come up with 14 years.<\/p>\n<p>According to news outlets, Dewey was arrested in December 2020 for raping a 14-year-old girl. She appeared in court during the change of plea and sentencing hearing last Friday with her parents.<\/p>\n<p>The victim\u2019s father told the court that his daughter was active in sports until she was raped in Dewey\u2019s car, threatened with a firearm and intimidated with death through numerous phone calls and texts if she talked about it.<\/p>\n<p>Dewey, for his part, continued to uphold his innocence, still claiming he was wronged and that he never broke into the victim\u2019s home.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/imgupload\/a84546b9234dea908506eb3309474ce6.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><\/p>\n<p>File photo shows Charles Lee Dewey III being escorted by a Department of Corrections officer from Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho\u2019s courtroom.<\/p>\n<p>-KIMBERLY B.
