The program is designed with the people of Guam in mind, providing personalized support to guide them through their recovery journey and back to healthy, active lives.<\/p>\n<p>Heart disease is one of the leading causes of illness and death, touching many families across the island. The Cardiac Rehab Program is GRMC\u2019s response to this growing challenge, offering each patient the tools and guidance they need to regain strength and confidence after a heart event.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t just about recovery\u2014it\u2019s about giving patients the resources to stay \u201cheart-healthy\u201d long term. The program focuses on empowering patients to make healthy lifestyle choices that develop lasting habits for long-term wellness.<\/p>\n<p>The program is delivered by a compassionate team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, behavioral therapists, and dietitians. Together, they collaboratively create a plan that is unique to each patient.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is simple: help patients recover and give them the confidence to live healthier, longer lives. We want them to know they\u2019re not alone in this journey,\u201d said GRMC interventional cardiologist, Dr. Maheswara \u201cMahesh\u201d Satya Golla. \u201cWith personalized care, we focus on reducing future risks and making sure our patients feel empowered and supported every step of the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>GRMC\u2019s Cardiac Rehab program consists of three essential phases:<\/p>\n<p>PHASE 1: IN-HOSPITAL REHAB<\/p>\n<p>In the first phase, patients engage in non-strenuous exercises, focusing on range of motion, guided by therapists and nurses. Patients will learn how to get their body moving, encouraging the heart to pump more, which helps improve circulation and reduce recovery time.<\/p>\n<p>PHASE 2: OUTPATIENT REHAB<\/p>\n<p>The second phase is assessment\u2013focused on identifying limitations and restrictions in physical function. Patients will learn how to manage risk factors such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, and stress. Guidance on making heart-healthy nutrition choices is also implemented.<\/p>\n<p>PHASE 3: POST-CARDIAC REHAB MAINTENANCE<\/p>\n<p>The final phase involves more independence and self-monitoring. It centers on increasing flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular endurance. Patients are encouraged to continue regular physical activity and maintain healthy habits.<\/p>\n<p>Golla adds that it\u2019s more than just a treatment\u2014it\u2019s a lifestyle change that helps patients adopt healthy habits that last.<\/p>\n<p>You may benefit if you have or have experienced a:<\/p>\n<p>Heart attack<\/p>\n<p>Heart condition, such as coronary artery disease (CAD); angina; or heart failure<\/p>\n<p>Heart procedure or surgery<\/p>\n<p>To extend this support to the community, GRMC offers heart health education through initiatives like the \u201cHealth Tips Series\u201d on social media, the \u201cYour Healthcare Partner\u201d series on the Ray Gibson radio show, and the free \u201cWalk with GRMC\u201d event every Thursday morning from 9am to 10am at the Micronesia Mall Center Court.
