To meet the increasing demand for programs focused on teaching, the Northern Marianas College has reintroduced the liberal arts degree with an emphasis in education. This degree aims to assist students by exposing them to a wide range of courses and disciplines that help them smoothly transition into NMC\u2019s Bachelors of Science in Education degree program. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Since the degree is also designed as a transfer degree, students will be able to transfer to other colleges or universities where they can then enroll in a program comparable to NMC\u2019s Bachelors of Science in Education degree program.<\/p>\n
Velma C. Deleon Guerrero, the Liberal Arts coordinator for NMC said, \u201cBy re-introducing this degree it will not only help future teachers who enroll in the School of Education, but it will also help other school personnel who want to further their education and serve their schools better.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI myself transferred with an associate\u2019s degree in Liberal Arts from NMC into the School of Education bachelor\u2019s program, so I understand the value of this particular degree program,\u201d Deleon Guerrero added. \u201cThis\u00a0liberal arts degree with an emphasis in education will make it easier for students to learn more about education and prepare for a career in serving our students and our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
As part of the program, students will study and gain a wide variety of skills and aptitudes that will enable them to better understand and function in a kindergarten, elementary, or secondary school teaching setting.<\/p>\n
These skills and aptitudes include patiently working with children; fulfilling organizational, administrative and record keeping tasks related to schooling; researching and communicating more effectively; influencing, motivating and training others; effectively problem-solving; developing analytical and critical thinking skills to help students learn; and creatively innovate and adapt in a school setting.<\/p>\n
The individual degree plan for the associates in liberal arts with an emphasis in Education has replaced an older version, which was last revised on April 25, 2013.
