The cohosts of<\/span> The View<\/span><\/em><\/a> have long had strong opinions that Donald Trump is guilty of various crimes and<\/span> deserves to spend time in prison<\/span><\/a> for them. So in response to the development that all of the pending charges against him have been dropped and his sentencing for the 34 felony counts he was found guilty of is indefinitely suspended, well, they had a lot to say.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Tuesday\u2019s (November 26) show,<\/span> Whoopi Goldberg<\/span><\/a> introduced the news that Jack Smith, special prosecutor, moved to dismiss his cases and joked, \u201cAfter all that time and money, are we going to get a rebate?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Joy Behar<\/span><\/a> was the first to respond to the story, saying, \u201cIt kind of shows you there\u2019s no such thing as karma, doesn\u2019t it? It\u2019s like the Easter Bunny and affordable housing. It doesn\u2019t exist.\u201d Behar then took a more serious tone and said, \u201cI feel like eventually we will get him out, but it\u2019s going to take a while, and let\u2019s hope there\u2019s not too much damage that he does\u2026 I mean, the idea that Kamala Harris says to the American people, \u2018I\u2019m going to help you buy a house,\u2019 that did not resonate as much as, \u2018They\u2019re eating the cats and dogs in Ohio,\u2019 I mean, it\u2019s weird isn\u2019t it? We\u2019re in a weird state right now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Alyssa Farah Griffin<\/span><\/a> then joined in to say that while she stands by everything she has said about the events of January 6 and how they were \u201cdisqualifying\u201d for Trump, she also doesn\u2019t think it was top of mind for voters who put him in office. \u201cThe last two years leading up to the election, so many voters, it was just in the rearview mirror. It wasn\u2019t that they were comfortable with it. They didn\u2019t like it. A lot of people who voted for Trump don\u2019t even like Donald Trump in the way he behaves. But what they kept saying is, \u2018The status quo is just unsustainable.\u2019 It kept going back to the cost of living.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Sara Haines<\/span><\/a> weighed in by saying that while she isn\u2019t surprised by the dismissal, given Trump\u2019s election, she\u2019s still personally affected by the events of January 6. \u201cIt is just like it happened yesterday for me. It is jarring. I can\u2019t believe it was the United States,\u201d she explained. She then pointed out that while there was initially universal outrage over what happened, \u201cit was somehow weaponized by the right to become \u2018it\u2019s a Tuesday.\u2019 So the irony for me is that this is the democracy and election that Trump had tried to subvert, the very democracy that is allowing him to get away with it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Sunny Hostin<\/span><\/a> decided to give the Department of Justice \u2014 particularly Merrick Garland \u2014 some words of support by explaining how much time it takes to build a case like this one, but she also refuted Griffin\u2019s point about the justification for Trump voters. \u201cDonald Trump never talked about the cost of eggs,\u201d she said of his campaign. \u201cHe tried to commit a sex act with a microphone. He talked about pets being eaten.\u201d She also pointed out that the majority of Black women voters agreed that democracy was a number one issue, adding, \u201cThere were some voters that felt that was very, very strong.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Griffin then countered that while Trump himself wasn\u2019t on message, his ads targeted economic constraints. Behar disagreed, saying that \u201clike a lot of autocrats in history, he found a scapegoat,\u201d referring to transgender fearmongering in certain ads.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no way around that. That is true,\u201d Goldberg agreed before diving into her increasingly usual cadence about taking a wait-and-see approach before panicking. \u201cI voted for everyone else because I thought we all wanted peace for our brothers and sisters in this. Other people didn\u2019t vote for that. So now all I can do is wait and see what he does and that will inform what I do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
