Madison first appeared in Salem in 2003 as the on-screen daughter of supercouple John Black (Drake Hogestyn<\/a>) and Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall<\/a>), followed by Beemer, whose Shawn is the offspring of Bo Brady (Peter Reckell<\/a>) and Hope Williams Brady (Kristian Alfonso<\/a>), in 2006. The pair has come and gone multiple times since and another opportunity wasn\u2019t guaranteed after their last run in 2023.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t expect I would ever be back,\u201d admits Madison. \u201cSo I think I just kind of made the most of it, not really knowing what to expect, and not really signing on for an extended period of time at the beginning, just kind of see how it went. And it was, honestly, my wish list come true and it\u2019s been so nice. I\u2019ve had the best time I\u2019ve ever had this last year. Janet [Spellman Drucker, co-executive producer] is so wonderful. And Ron [Carlivati, former head writer] was great at the beginning when we came back \u2014 we were doing lots of fun things \u2014 and the new writers [Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford] who took over are [a] chef\u2019s kiss.\u201d<\/p>\n After so much back and forth, Beemer says he has tried to roll with the punches when it comes to playing Shawn, but it still takes him by surprise when he gets the call. \u201cI didn\u2019t expect it,\u201d he says of a comeback. \u201cEspecially after the first go round, the first little stint. I was like, \u2018All right, never going back.\u2019 And then you come back, and then you go, and then you come back again. But every time you go, it\u2019s one of those, \u2018Hey, man, it\u2019s great working with you.\u2019 \u2018No, no, no. Don\u2019t shake hands, don\u2019t say goodbye. We\u2019ll see you again. Stop doing that.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018But it doesn\u2019t feel that. It feels like \u2018bye\u2019 to me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Chris Haston \/ \u00a9NBC \/ courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Observes Madison with a smile, \u201cI think that our journey as actors on this show is very representative of a soap journey: lots of twists and turns, lots of unexpected phone calls and events, but here we are still together, still doing this show, and I don\u2019t think it\u2019s going anywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n The duo is proud of their association with the soap, which just marked 59 years on the air and will celebrate its 60th<\/sup> in November 2025. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor,\u201d points out Beemer. \u201cIt\u2019s such a cool thing to be part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n Which wasn\u2019t always a given to hear them tell it. \u201cI remember my first anniversary party was the 40th anniversary,\u201d recalls Madison. \u201cAnd I remember all the whispers of, \u2018This might be the last big one.\u2019 And here we are, 20 years later, about to celebrate 60, and we\u2019re going stronger now than we were then. So, I\u2019m very optimistic.\u201d Adds Beemer, \u201cI remember the 50th<\/sup> and people were like, \u2018This is the big one. We had one at 40 but this is the big one. We\u2019re probably not going to have another one.\u2019 And now we\u2019re at 60.\u201d<\/p>\n The enormity of the milestone is not lost on them. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of mind-blowing,\u201d marvels Madison. \u201cAnd I think for Hollywood standards, it\u2019s hard for anyone to really truly grasp the importance of this show in just the zeitgeist and in Hollywood in general.\u201d<\/p>\n For the actress, a fan of the show before landing her job, it\u2019s been a dream come true. \u201cI always wanted to be on this specific show, and I always wanted to be like a Deidre Hall,\u201d Madison explains. \u201cI wanted to be one of these people that my whole career would be spent here. So I feel like, in a way, it sort of manifested, but [I\u2019m] just so glad to still be here.\u201d<\/p>\n But she feels the loss of on-screen father, Drake Hogestyn, who passed away on September 28 from pancreatic cancer, profoundly. \u201cI was just thinking of him today because we\u2019ve been doing some scenes where he comes up,\u201d Madison shares. \u201cAnd I can just say he was a huge influence, obviously, team captain of our little ship over here, and I worked with him so much. I know I\u2019ve said this before, but even when it\u2019s pretend, when you call somebody \u2018Dad\u2019 for 20 years, there\u2019s just something to that. And we just miss him every day. But I feel his presence all the time. It doesn\u2019t feel like he\u2019s not here.\u201d<\/p>\n Notes Beemer, \u201cFeels like he\u2019s here, feels like he\u2019s going to pop out and be like, \u2018Hey, kids!\u2019\u201d Which suits Madison just fine. \u201cMaybe that\u2019s just where we all are in the grief process, but I prefer it that way.\u201d<\/p>\n As the year winds down, Madison teases there\u2019s a lot to be excited about in the months ahead on Days<\/em>. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of chapters for a lot of things coming,\u201d she reveals. \u201cI love how much it\u2019s all kind of criss-crossing. We\u2019re getting to work with everyone, and there\u2019s a lot of great drama coming.
