{"id":424153,"date":"2024-11-30T05:05:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-30T05:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=424153"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T14:00:00","slug":"Drinking-Lots-of-Water-Really-Is-Good-for-You-Study-Finds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/Drinking-Lots-of-Water-Really-Is-Good-for-You-Study-Finds\/","title":{"rendered":"Drinking Lots of Water Really Is Good for You, Study Finds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><h2><strong>Key Takeaways<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Drinking eight cups of water per day seems to be good advice, according to a review of data on water intake<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Sufficient water can prevent a host of ailments, including kidney stones, UTIs and high blood pressure<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Water can even be an aid to losing excess weight<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>FRIDAY, Nov. 29, 2024 (HealthDay News) &#8212; The collected evidence is in, and drinking about eight cups of water per day is, in fact, good for you.<\/p>\n<p>So says a University of California San Francisco team who crunched the data from 18 randomized controlled trials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor such a ubiquitous and simple intervention, the evidence hasn\u2019t been clear and the benefits were not well-established, so we wanted to take a closer look,\u201d explained study senior author <a href=\"https:\/\/urology.ucsf.edu\/people\/benjamin-n-breyer\">Dr. Benjamin Breyer<\/a>, chair of the university&#8217;s Department of Urology. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo our knowledge, this is the first study assessing the benefits of water consumption on clinical outcomes broadly,&#8221; he said in a university news release.<\/p>\n<p>Breyer&#8217;s team published its findings Nov. 25 in <a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamanetworkopen\/fullarticle\/2827021\"><\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamanetworkopen\/fullarticle\/2827021\">JAMA Network Open<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The best evidence that lots of water is good for you came from studies citing its power to prevent kidney stones, and to also help folks lose weight.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve had a kidney stone, drinking eight cups of water each day can help prevent a recurrence, the evidence showed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Drinking six or more cups of water per day also seemed to help adults shed excess pounds, studies showed, although eight cups per day didn&#8217;t help teens lose weight.<\/p>\n<p>Headaches seemed to ease in frequency if adults upped their water intake, and other trials found that lots of water could help prevent migraines and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthday.com\/a-to-z-health\/infectious-disease\/uti-2665938107.html\">urinary tract infections<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Having about four cups of water per day helped folks with diabetes control their blood sugar.<\/p>\n<p>Drinking more water also helped younger adults lower their blood pressure to healthy levels, the data showed.<\/p>\n<p>Still, too much water may not be for everyone, Breyer cautioned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that dehydration is detrimental, particularly in someone with a history of kidney stones or urinary infections,\u201d he said. \u201cOn the other hand, someone who suffers from frequent urination at times may benefit from drinking less.
