Recently retired, Solberg sought a meaningful way to contribute to her community, leading her to join the Red Cross as a volunteer in June 2024.

“I didn’t want to stay idle after retirement,” said Solberg. “I wanted to make a difference and help those in need.”

With her enthusiasm and commitment, Solberg completed the necessary training to equip her with the skills required for deployment. Her hard work soon bore fruit when she was called to assist in Georgia, where she began her journey as a shelter worker. Solberg’s role was critical in providing support and comfort to those affected by the hurricane.

In addition to her work in Georgia, Solberg was also tasked with conducting damage assessments in parts of North Carolina. Her ability to adapt and take on new responsibilities showcases the vital role volunteers play in disaster response efforts.

“The selflessness and courage displayed by volunteers like Bobbie are what make the American Red Cross effective in its mission to help communities during times of crisis,” said J.D.
