Outlander<\/em><\/a>\u2018s journey into a new timeline continues as Roger (Richard Rankin<\/a>) and Buck\u2019s (Diarmaid Murtagh<\/a>) adventure in the past puts them in the path of Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek<\/a>), years before she\u2019d meet Claire (Caitriona Balfe<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Eager to find his son Jemmy (Blake Johnston-Miller<\/a>), Roger seeks answers about a \u201cfairy man\u201d he believes is Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton<\/a>) who has been spotted in the area, and while Geillis doesn\u2019t have all of the answers, there\u2019s a promising lead from an unexpected source that ends up being Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish<\/a>). As Roger tries to comprehend the situation unfolding in front of his eyes, Buck is entirely unaware that they\u2019re witnessing his parents\u2019 first meeting.<\/p>\n

While Roger understands the gravity of this meeting and knows the figures involved, Buck doesn\u2019t even know that Geillis and Dougal are his biological parents, having not been raised by the pair. So, why doesn\u2019t Roger clue him in? \u201cHow do you prepare someone for that?\u201d Rankin tells TV Insider. \u201cThere\u2019s also just a whole interfering with the flow of time, which I think Roger has to reason out. I think he has to try and have a really great grasp of the potential consequences of that before he would ever dream of coming out and saying that,\u201d Rankin adds.<\/p>\n

\u201cEspecially where they are, and especially in the circumstances that they\u2019re in,\u201d he continues. \u201cI think that could potentially backfire. It comes from a place of protectiveness and a place of love that he doesn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s a fair point as Murtagh points out, \u201cThings aren\u2019t going well for their plan. They\u2019ve overshot their landing zone by a few decades, which they didn\u2019t think was possible. So yeah, there are many challenges which happen simultaneously.\u201d<\/p>\n

But that isn\u2019t the only major moment for this duo finding their way through the 18th century as a new clue about the \u201cfairy man\u201d arises, revealing his identity to presumably be that of Roger\u2019s father who was lost in action during World War II. \u201cIt\u2019s an incredibly profound moment. It changes everything. It changes the very sort of idea of how they\u2019re even there,\u201d Rankin muses.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think when they see the dog tags, it\u2019s a whole flood of emotions and sort of ultimate revelation that, \u2018Hang on a minute, this could be the reason why we are in this time, why we are here, why something\u2019s kind of not felt right,’\u201d he adds. \u201cWe\u2019ve just assumed that we\u2019ve followed Jeremiah, Mackenzie to the time that he\u2019s been kidnapped to\u2026 He thought his father died in a plane crash. So to see his dog tags\u2026 It just changes his whole perception of what happened to his father and where he might have gone.\u201d<\/p>\n
