But Her-icanes had a more well-rounded lineup and used their height to their advantage to pull away, 16-8, with 12 minutes left in the first half.

Bwi Ballers didn’t let the 8-point deficit get to them though and inched closer, 10-16. From there, both teams stagnated after a shot by Her-icanes’ Rachel Langu to make it 18-10. Their defenses strengthened and it was an 18-10 game until finally, Her-icane’s Kaia Travilla sank a basket with six minutes left.

It was a much closer game in the second half as Bwi Ballers’ went for a rally. Until the last minutes of the game, both teams were deadlocked until Her-icanes’ Mikki Kautz delivered the 2 points needed to take the win, 36-34.

In the other games that day, Katinko Queens ran to victory, 29-17, over Alley Oops, and Prime 1 defeated Prim 2, 19-14.

The friendly league is a mix of NMI Women’s National Basketball Team players and beginners. The rules are simple: national players cannot guard new players, and fastbreak plays and full court presses are not allowed.

Interested but don’t have a team?
