{"id":42553,"date":"2014-07-21T04:00:03","date_gmt":"2014-07-20T18:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=42553"},"modified":"2014-07-21T04:00:03","modified_gmt":"2014-07-20T18:00:03","slug":"lower-base-sewer-system-close-design-phase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/lower-base-sewer-system-close-design-phase\/","title":{"rendered":"Lower Base sewer system close to design phase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. is close to finalizing the selection process for a contractor to design the Lower Base sewer system replacement, according to CUC executive director Alan Fletcher.<\/p>\n<p>Fletcher noted that the selection must be approved by the funding agency, the U.S Department of Commerce\u2019s Economic Development Agency, prior to the awarding of a contract. <\/p>\n<p>The Lower Base sewer system need to be replaced as it is already old, dilapidated, and dates back to Saipan\u2019s Naval administration.<\/p>\n<p>The design will intercept the existing Capital Hill sewer in the lower portion of Isa Drive and will service the main Lower Base industrial area and includes a new lift station that will pump into the existing force main coming from Tanapag.<\/p>\n<p>The force main will then be extended and enlarged from the point of connection to discharge to the existing S-3 lift station at the Saipan Seaport, enabling the abandonment of lift station S-1, T-3, and the Tan Holdings lift station.<\/p>\n<p>The connection of all the existing and active buildings in the area will also be included in the design.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThe contract will give 180 days [six months] for the consultant to complete the design work,\u201d Fletcher said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that CUC has applied for construction funding with the assistance of the Water Task Force through EDA with \u201cmatching funds\u201d provided by the CNMI Capital Improvement Project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCUC has not received any word on whether a grant will be awarded for construction,\u201d Fletcher said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. is close to finalizing the selection process for a contractor to&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":45,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[182,49,187,616],"class_list":["post-42553","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-capital-hill","tag-cuc","tag-lower-base","tag-water-task-force"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/42553","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/45"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=42553"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/42553\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=42553"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=42553"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=42553"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
