{"id":425898,"date":"2024-11-13T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-13T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=425898"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T14:00:00","slug":"Ramsey-takes-men-s-open-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/Ramsey-takes-men-s-open-championship\/","title":{"rendered":"Ramsey takes men\u2019s open championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the culmination of the two-weekend 14th Tan Holdings Tennis Classic 2024 last Sunday, NMI National Tennis Team player Colin Ramsey won the men\u2019s open singles championship at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan tennis courts.<\/p>\n<p>Ramsey, who was the No. 2 seed, upset veteran player and No. 1 seed Tomas Abel in two sets, 6-1, 6-1, in their finals matchup.<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old Ramsey flew through Week 2 of the tourney that began last Friday with a win over junior netter Ryan Choi, 6-0, 6-0. He then disposed of No. 3 seed David Minsoo Kwon, 6-4, 6-0, last Saturday to punch his ticket into the finals.<\/p>\n<p>Ramsey said of his win, \u201cI felt really solid this tournament. I\u2019m feeling great physically and mentally and it led to a successful tournament for me.\u201d When asked if he\u2019s played against Abel before, he said, \u201cTomas and I play a few times a week and the matches are usually much closer. I just started strong that day and didn\u2019t let up. Although we battled rain throughout the weekend, the conditions on Sunday couldn\u2019t have been better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With that, he said, \u201cI\u2019m very happy we got to squeeze in one more tournament before going to the Davis Cup in Bahrain. That will be the biggest stage I\u2019ve had the privilege to play on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s singles 4.0 division finals, another upset was recorded as No. 2 seed J.R.
