The Last of Us<\/em><\/a> may not return until 2025, but star Jeffrey Wright<\/a> is opening up about joining the HBO<\/a> series for its highly-anticipated second season.<\/p>\n

Wright\u2019s connection to the show extends beyond its TV confines, having originated the role he\u2019ll play as Isaac Dixon in the video game. \u201cMy son was a fan of the game and I met Neil Druckmann<\/a> who\u2019s the creator,\u201d Wright recalls of his initial introduction to the world. Druckman, as Wright points out is also \u201cbehind the series.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe asked me if I wanted to be a part of the game,\u201d Wright continues. \u201cOne of the writers from Westworld<\/em><\/a> is a writer for the game and also for the series, Halley [Wegryn Gross],\u201d the actor reveals. \u201cAnd so, I asked my son, \u2018What do you know about this thing, The Last of Us<\/em>?\u2019 And he was like, \u2018What?!’\u201d Wright says animatedly with a laugh.<\/p>\n

In other words, his son\u2019s enthusiasm was an easy way to convince Wright to join the world. \u201cAnd so I agreed to voice this character Isaac Dixon for the game.\u201d Wright is just the latest video game performer to dip his toes into the television version; Season 1 also featured Merle Dandridge<\/a> reprising her role onscreen as Fireflies leader Marlene.<\/p>\n

Of course, fans will recall how her story ended with Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal<\/a>) killing her to save Ellie (Bella Ramsey<\/a>) from being sacrificed to find a cure for the apocalyptic outbreak that turned the world upside down. Additionally, Season 1 featured other video game stars including Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, who played the video game versions of Ellie and Joel, among others.<\/p>\n

Regarding his return to The Last of Us<\/em> universe, Wright says, \u201cIt was fun to go back and revisit that character but do it in the flesh,\u201d which he notes is an \u201cinteresting flesh to inhabit.\u201d As previously teased<\/a>, Isaac is described as the leader of a large militia group known as the Washington Liberation Front in the video game.<\/p>\n

While Wright couldn\u2019t say too much about his character\u2019s role in Season 2, he teases that when \u201cwe introduce the character this season, we tell a little about his history, which is a little more than we see in the game.\u201d As for what viewers can anticipate, he warns, \u201cBuckle up.\u201d<\/p>\n
