The OJT program is part of the Northern Marianas College\u2019s workforce development initiatives led by NMC\u2019s Community Development Institute.<br \/>(Contributed Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nNorthern Marianas College\u2019s Workforce Development and Apprenticeship Program under the Community Development Institute is entering the third phase of its training program, On-the-Job-Training, to provide apprentices training for new jobs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trainees who have completed Phase 1: \u201cBasic Work Skills\u201d and Phase 2: \u201cComputer Literacy Training\u201d are now gearing up to undergo the next phase of their training, which involves hands-on \u201cOn the Job Training\u201d with participating businesses on Saipan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The training is geared to help individuals acquire direct work experience, learn new skills sets, increase self-confidence on the job, and re-enter the job market in positions where there are employment needs to be filled, said Colleen Fleming, who has been coordinating the program.<\/p>\n<p>It is also hoped that upon completion of the third phase of the OJT, trainees will be hired by the respective employer or considered for future employment. Employers that have partnered with the Northern Marianas College to participate in the training include Hard Rock Caf\u00e9, 360 Restaurant, Herman\u2019s Modern Bakery, Coral Ocean Point, and Pacific Islands Club.<\/p>\n<p>Participating OJT trainees were recruited from those who took part in Phases 1 and 2, and were required to create an effective job resume and to complete the Kuder Journey Career Assessment, an online assessment of the trainee\u2019s possible career paths. Trainees will also obtain the Food Handler &amp; Safety Certification, administered by the Bureau of Environmental Health, prior to working at the job site. CDI has also partnered up with the CNMI Office of Transit Authority to provide transportation to get to the job-training site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to step up the programs that prepare our workforce for meaningful jobs,\u201d said NMC president Dr. Sharon Y.
