{"id":44057,"date":"2014-08-04T04:00:31","date_gmt":"2014-08-03T18:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=44057"},"modified":"2014-08-04T04:00:31","modified_gmt":"2014-08-03T18:00:31","slug":"epa-sees-improvements-cuc-water-wastewater-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/epa-sees-improvements-cuc-water-wastewater-operations\/","title":{"rendered":"EPA sees improvements in CUC water, wastewater operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The resulting improvements in the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.\u2019s water and wastewater operations have been significant, according to U.S. Environmental Protection inspector John Tinger. <\/p>\n<p>In his declaration attached to the U.S. government\u2019s July 29 report filed in federal court, Tinger said that stipulated order 1 requires CUC to hire eight key managers that meet minimum qualifications for the utility\u2019s water, wastewater and oil management operations.<\/p>\n<p>Tinger has been designated as EPA\u2019s project coordinator under stipulated order 1, which the federal court entered in March 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Stipulated order 1 focuses on drinking water and wastewater issues such as requiring CUC to provide safe drinking water to residents on a 24-hour basis, maintain adequate chlorine supplies, safely treat and discharge wastewater, and develop long-term capital improvement and financial plans. <\/p>\n<p>Tinger disclosed that EPA had required CUC to conduct broad, national solicitations for these key positions and vetted applicant pools to ensure candidates meet the minimum qualifications.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result, CUC has been able to hire managers and engineers who have the qualifications and experience necessary to run the utility operations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tinger said that maintaining these qualified managers and promptly filling vacancies with qualified candidates is a top priority.<\/p>\n<p>He said CUC currently has two vacancies in key management positions and a number of unfilled certified drinking water operator positions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The resulting improvements in the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.\u2019s water and wastewater operations have been significant,&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[260,49,64,244],"class_list":["post-44057","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-commonwealth-utilities-corp","tag-cuc","tag-oil","tag-utility"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/44057","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=44057"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/44057\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=44057"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=44057"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=44057"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
