{"id":44100,"date":"2014-08-04T04:00:54","date_gmt":"2014-08-03T18:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=44100"},"modified":"2014-08-04T04:00:54","modified_gmt":"2014-08-03T18:00:54","slug":"halong-intensifies-super-typhoon-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/halong-intensifies-super-typhoon-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Halong intensifies into a super typhoon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Halong intensified yesterday into a super typhoon, moving west farther away from the CNMI and Guam. <\/p>\n<p>Halong, however, is generating large swells and the public is being warned that hazardous surf of 7 to 10 feet will persist along west facing reefs through at least Tuesday night, according to the U.S. National Weather Service.<\/p>\n<p>As precautionary actions, the agency advises people to avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches, especially those along west facing reefs as rip currents will be life threatening.<\/p>\n<p>As of 1pm yesterday, Halong\u2019s center was located 810 miles west of Saipan or 755 miles west-northwest of Guam. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 160 miles per hour.<\/p>\n<p>Moving west at 8 mph, the super typhoon is expected to turn north-northwest tonight, Monday, and begin a slow weakening trend.<\/p>\n<p>In Palau, hazardous surf of 8 to 9 feet will persist through today, Monday, along west  and north facing shores.<\/p>\n<p>In Yap, hazardous surf of 9 to 10 feet should peak Sunday night along west and north facing shores.
