It affords similar protections against discrimination to Americans with disabilities as the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which made discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, and other characteristics illegal. Disability is defined by the ADA as \u2018&#8230;a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity.\u2019 The determination of whether any particular condition is considered a disability is made on a case by case basis. Certain specific conditions are excluded as disabilities, such as current substance abuse and visual impairment that is correctable by prescription lenses.\u201d (Wikipedia)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Sept. 25, 2008, President George W. Bush signed the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 into law. This was intended to give broader protections for disabled workers and \u2018turn back the clock\u2019 on court rulings that Congress deemed too restrictive. The ADAAA includes a list of \u2018major life activities.\u2019\u201d (Wikipedia).<\/p>\n<p>Major donors to NMPASI\u2019s \u2018Fun-Raiser\u2019\/ADA 24th anniversary celebration event are as follows: Godfather\u2019s Bar ($446 cash donation); Bridge Capital ($250 cash donation); Steve Brownstein ($100 cash donation); and Calvo\u2019s Select Care Insurance ($100 cash donation). Other in-kind supporters include The Shack, PHI Pharmacy, Ace Hardware, Sweet Escapes, Shane Lee, IT&#038;E, Greg Elliot Artwork, and National Office Supply.
