Monroyo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nSixteen of the 18 matches played in Day 3 of the 2014 Shirley\u2019s Badminton Classic wrapped up after only two games, giving eight singles players and seven doubles teams easy victories last Sunday at the TSL Sports Complex.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s  singles division, Class A, Macoi Aguda pulled off an upset over Glenn Bluutjens, 21-16, 21-19, while last year\u2019s finalist Ferdie Arago also took only two games to down Jordan Pangilinan, 21-19, 21-10. In Class B matches, Ezekiel Macario routed John Canto, 21-0, 21-11, while Joel Ortega defeated Edwin Montoya, 21-14, 21-12. In the two other men\u2019s singles matches (Class C), A.J. Ortega topped Sato San, 21-17, 21-11, while Toshiako recorded the lone victory via three games in the men\u2019s singles after rallying past Sang Do Park, 20-21, 21-20, 21-14.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s A singles, defending champion Hannah Choi edged Janelle Pangilinan, 21-18, 21-19, while Nicole Malasarte dominated Rowena Sison in their Class B tiff, 21-14, 21-6. In the C singles, Patricia Abantao swept Vilma Reyes, 21-10, 21-12.<\/p>\n<p>In the doubles division, the pair of Shirley Kim and Lani Santos notched back-to-back wins in the 35-and-above category  in Day 3 of the annual competition. They first prevailed over Elna Curate and Roxe Lazaro, 21-17, 21-19, before beating Cristy Villaflor and Judy Mendieta, 21-14, 21-15. In the third women\u2019s 35-and-above doubles match, Alma Ortega and Sally Im needed three games to nip Merlie Tolentino and Emily Vargas, 21-16, 16-21, 21-16.<\/p>\n<p>Though they lost in the 35-and-above age group, Mendieta and Vargas managed to secure a win last Sunday after outclassing Gwynette and Janine Florentino in the Class C, 21-18, 21-14. In Class B, Windy Fernandez and Toshiko Obata crushed Cheng Saturno and Lucella Lampera, 21-13, 21-9.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s division, the two Class C matches were decided after only two games with Patrick Fernandez and Leo Su and Cano and Jeremi Montenejo on the winning end.
