Personnel director Isidro K. Seman reminded government employees who are seeking political office to take a leave \u201cimmediately\u201d after the Commonwealth Election Commission\u2019s board certifies their candidacy. <\/p>\n
The certification of candidacies for the Nov. 4 general elections is set for Wednesday, Aug. 13.<\/p>\n
\u201cEmployees will not be allowed to work on weekends nor use sick leave or any other paid leave during this time. Candidates will be allowed to return to work following the announcement of the election results,\u201d Seman said in a July 31 memorandum to all department and activity heads.<\/p>\n
Many of the nearly 100 individuals who filed their candidacies with the Election Commission as of yesterday\u2019s deadline are government employees.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease be informed that in accordance with NMIAC 10-20.2-472, once the Election Commission certifies a government employee\u2019s candidacy for a political office, that employee must take leave immediately by either utilizing annual leave or leave without pay,\u201d Seman said in his one-page memo, a copy of which was obtained yesterday.<\/p>\n
