Lizama suspended the imposition of sentence for Gloria A. Duenas after a plea agreement with the government.<\/p>\n<p>The sentence was suspended for 20 months on the condition that she pays $750 in fine, performs 120 hours of community work service and pays restitution to the victims.<\/p>\n<p>The Attorney General&#8217;s Office charged Duenas with three counts of theft and three counts of forgery on Aug. 1, 1997.<\/p>\n<p>The charges carry a jail sentence of five years and a fine of $5,000 for each count.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents showed that on three different occasions, Duenas took and cashed refund checks and converted them to her own use.<\/p>\n<p>The first incident was on Jan. 22, 1997 when Duenas took and cashed $1,580.54 refund check made out to Akira Yoshima. She signed the check with the name of the payee although she did not have any authority to do so.<\/p>\n<p>The other incidents happened on April 15 and June 4 of 1996 when she took and cashed two refund checks belonging to Keiji Mori.
