It continued to go up and registered over 1800 student population in school year 1997-1998.<\/p>\n<p>Based on its records, the Chamorros are attending NMC for their post-secondary education. They led the pack with some 1,000 students enrolled. They were followed by the Asians with close to 400.  The Carolinians came in last with 129 students.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past two school years, NMC has witnessed more than 200 graduates. Previous counts were only a little over 100 graduates. School year 1996-1997 saw the highest number of graduates, with 251 degrees and certificates being awarded.<\/p>\n<p>According to its President Agnes McPhetres, NMC also acted more than an academic institution for post secondary education with various programs pursuing other needs.<\/p>\n<p>She cited programs like the Aqua-culture Research and the Business Development Center which assisted local economic development projects.<\/p>\n<p>The college also led efforts to offer graduate school for students on-island with its tie-up with the San Diego State University.
